The second part of the set devoted to the German home guard of the end of World War II, again in 1:72 scale. It extends the range of poses and equipment, so a more numerous and more varied unit can be assembled in one scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
The home guard units of the last months of the war do not fit into a single set. A great many battalions arose and they differed from town to town: a unit made up of the workers of an arms factory looked one way, a group of older men from the countryside another and a unit filled out with boys from the youth organizations quite different again. The second series of figures therefore brings further poses, further forms of improvised dress and further ways of holding a weapon for which none of those men had been trained. In a scene the two parts complement each other and only together do they give the picture of an incoherent formation.
Small moldings will last for decades if they are handled sensibly. The trouble is not caused by age itself, but by lasting pressure and heat. Figures pressed down at the bottom of a box will bend, a set left in a car in the sun will soften and will never straighten again, and softer plastics moreover give off a greasy film after years as the plasticizers migrate out of them.
A flat box with compartments or a lining of soft foam into which the figures are stuck by their feet serves best. Store them standing and loose, not thrown on a heap. Avoid direct sunlight and sources of heat. And if grease appears on an older molding, it is enough to wash it again in lukewarm water with a degreasing agent and let it dry before the paint comes into play.
Finished and painted figures deserve one more layer of caution. They are carried by the base, not by the torso, and are interleaved with soft paper so that they do not rub against one another while being moved and the paint on the raised parts stays whole.
