A vacuum-formed clear canopy for the Polikarpov I-16 in 1:72 scale, the late version. The thin film replaces the thicker part from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the 1930s, a cantilever low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and a short, stubby fuselage. Its cockpit is visible from every angle, so the thickness of the glazing and the cleanness of the frames decide the final impression the model makes. This part is meant for the late version.
A clear canopy formed over a mold from thin transparent film. Against an injection-molded part, vacuum-formed glazing has a far thinner wall, so you really do see through it into the interior and the frames do not look oversized.
Cut the part out with some margin, then true the edge by sanding on fine paper laid on a flat board, trying the fit on the fuselage as you go. Super glue fogs clear film, so use a cement meant for clear parts or a PVA glue that dries clear. Mask the frames and spray them only once the part is seated. Finish the interior before you set the canopy in place, because nothing can be put right under glued-on glazing.
For modelers who want the cockpit open, or simply glazing more delicate than an injection-molded part offers. Working with a vacuum-formed part calls for patience in sanding the edge. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
