A set of painting masks for the single-seat F-16 in the MLU version, 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck on before painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MLU designation belongs to the upgrade program that European F-16s went through in single-seat as well as two-seat form. The upgrade concerned mainly the avionics and the cockpit equipment, while the external shape of the aircraft stayed close to the original machine. This set is made for the single-seat version, that is for the shorter canopy with one seat.
The set holds pre-cut masks in 1:72 scale, shaped to the areas that are to stay free of paint after spraying. The main gain is in the frames of the glazing: a cut part keeps the same width of frame along its whole length, which is hard to achieve with hand-cut tape at this scale.
Work with tweezers and do not touch the clear parts with your fingers, as grease from your hand stays under the mask and the finish will peel there. Offer the mask up dry, check the shape and only then press it down, with particular attention to the edge. On a curved canopy, press gradually from the middle so that the rim does not lift. Spray thin coats square to the surface; paint applied at an angle gets under the edge of the mask. Do not throw the leftover pieces of the masks away, as they come in useful for masking small areas on later builds.
The set suits modelers who want clean, straight canopy frames without the slow trimming of tape on the model itself, and anyone building F-16s in European service. The package holds masks only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
