A photo-etched set of bracing wires for a model of the Macchi M.C.72 racing floatplane in 1:72 scale. It replaces plastic or improvised rigging with fine metal parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Macchi M.C.72 was an Italian racing floatplane developed for the contest for the Schneider Trophy. It was powered by the double Fiat AS.6 engine, made up of two coupled twelve-cylinder engines, which drove a pair of contra-rotating propellers. In 1934 Francesco Agello reached over 709 kilometers per hour with it, and that entry still stands today as the speed record for piston-engined floatplanes. The slender fuselage, the massive floats and the dense web of bracing wires make the machine a rewarding but demanding subject.
The set is made by etching from metal sheet and contains bracing wires for rigging the floats and the flying surfaces. The photo-etched parts have a constant profile along their whole length, so they neither slacken nor sag the way improvised rigging made from fishing line does.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a firm surface and carefully sand off the remains of the tab. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold. Bond the wires with super glue and fit them only after the main painting work is finished, so that they are not bent while you handle the model. Working from the inner pairs outward and checking the floats stay square as you go has proved itself.
The set is intended for builders of M.C.72 models in 1:72 scale who want to make the rigging more accurate. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check compatibility with your particular kit against the manufacturer's information.
