An add-on set in 1:72 scale for the Polikarpov I-153 Chaika biplane: a refined engine cowling and other exterior parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-153 was a Soviet fighter biplane with a radial engine that differed from its predecessors in having retractable landing gear. It earned the nickname Chaika, meaning seagull, from the gull shape of the upper wing, which slopes away from the fuselage in a shallow crank. In the first months of the fighting on the Eastern Front it already lagged behind modern monoplanes, but it went on serving as a light attack and reconnaissance machine.
The set brings a refined engine cowling and other exterior parts for a model in 1:72 scale. The aim is to replace the simplified shapes of the basic kit with parts that have crisper edges and more legible surface detail, which tells most on the circular engine cowling.
The material is not polystyrene, so ordinary plastic cement will not hold. Use super glue or a two-part adhesive. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest down; on the circular cowling work in small steps and keep dry-fitting. Before painting, wash the parts in warm water with detergent and degrease them, then lay down a continuous primer. The exact seating procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Fit the engine cowling before you start building the struts and rigging, or you will hardly be able to reach it.
The set is meant for more experienced modelers who build the I-153 in 1:72 scale and are not put off by modifying the original parts. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check compatibility with a particular kit against the manufacturer's data.
