This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter represents the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the 1942 version with the lightweight cast turret, in 1:72 scale. The model has a finely done running gear, the characteristic cast turret with a gun of 76.2 mm caliber and decals with Soviet markings. It is a separate variant, different from the earlier forms with the welded turret.
The KV-1 was a heavily armored Soviet heavy tank. The original cast turret was robust, but it added to the already high weight of the vehicle, so a lightened variant of the cast turret was developed that reduced the load on the drivetrain. The 1942 form therefore improved the handling while keeping the heavy armor protection. The tank carried a main gun of 76.2 mm caliber.
Assemble the running gear and the tracks before you close the hull up. The cast surface of the turret is brought out by a fine texture and by shading afterwards. The single-color Soviet finish comes to life with a wash and dust effects in pigments; a colored primer on the plastic suits it well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
