A resin, 3D-printed detail set representing the podded TARPS reconnaissance system for the F-14 Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale. The package contains one pod. It is not an airplane model but an accessory that is hung under the fuselage and makes it possible to build the Tomcat in the reconnaissance configuration.

The real subject

TARPS was a tactical airborne reconnaissance system thanks to which the Tomcat carried out photo-reconnaissance tasks. The pod was carried at the rear of the fuselage and held optical and infrared sensors. Even in the small 1:72 scale the accessory brings a model to life and sets the reconnaissance configuration apart from a classic fighter load.

Use and fitting

• Wash the print resin residue off the parts and clean up the print supports.
• Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) onto the corresponding hardpoint.
• Verify the position of the pod against period photographs.
• Bring the sensor windows out with gloss varnish, and complete the body with fine weathering.
