An Airfix gift set on the theme of the Normandy landings in 1:76 scale. As a starter set it holds paints as well as the plastic kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
On June 6, 1944 the Allies began the landings in Normandy, the operation run under the code name Overlord. It was the largest amphibious operation of the Second World War, and its first hours on the beaches and behind them are among the most frequently modeled subjects of all. The whole set is devoted to that event.
This is a starter set, that is a package in which paints come alongside the plastic parts. The kits are in 1:76 scale, which is a little smaller than the widespread 1:72, and it suits equipment and figures that are meant to stand side by side in one scene. The make-up of the individual kits and the list of paints supplied are stated by the manufacturer on the box, so go through it before you build.
The parts are small at this scale, so a sharp blade, tweezers and a steady hand pay off. Cut the pieces from the sprue a little distance from the part and sand the remnant of the gate so that the edges are not damaged. Stir the paints thoroughly before use and lay them on in thin coats, or they will fill the fine detail of the molding. Any figures are easier to paint while still on the sprue and to remove only at the end.
The set suits a gift and a first step for a beginning modeler who does not want to hunt for paints separately. It also serves as the basis for a small diorama on the landings. A base for the diorama, further tools and extra figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
