The bright blue tone from the water-thinnable Acrysion range is among the colors that will certainly not be lost on a finished model. It comes into its own on the fuselage stripes of aerobatic aircraft, on the blue fields of national markings, on the bodies of racing cars and on the colored parts of figures and robot kits. With a pigment as strong as this it is worth reckoning that the final impression depends a great deal on what lies underneath it: over a white base the shade comes out ringing and clean, while over dark plastic or a gray primer it darkens and is muted noticeably.
The binder is acrylic and plain water is enough to thin it, so during a build the smell of organic solvents is avoided and the cup and the nozzle can be rinsed before the material sets. According to the manufacturer's directions the range is aimed above all at being laid on with an airbrush. What is essential is honest mixing of the bottle before every use: the pigment settles at the bottom while it stands, and unmixed paint gives an uneven, cloudy surface that can only be put right by sanding it down and spraying again.
It holds best on a smooth, degreased and evenly primed part. Build the shade up in thin coats and let the surface flash off between them: two or three fine mists give a cleaner result than one generous coat, which creeps into the engraved lines and rounds off sharp edges. If you are going to put decals on the area, first go over it with a gloss coat: under a film laid straight onto acrylic grain, silvered edges would otherwise appear.
