A mahogany shade from the water-thinnable Gunze Acrysion acrylic range, intended for spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mahogany is a deep reddish brown tone that modelers keep to hand for a different reason from most colors. It rarely forms the final coat. Most often it lies under something else: under the varnished wood of the propellers of First World War aircraft, under the planks of ship decks, under the stocks of weapons and under straps and harness that are meant to look like old leather.
The procedure with wood is usually simple. Spray the area mahogany, and once dry draw an oil color or a transparent shade across it and pull the direction of the growth rings out with the bristles. The dark base shows through and gives the result a depth that a clear coat alone on light plastic cannot give.
On equipment the same paint suits steel drums, brake drums, the old brickwork of dioramas and the focal rust patches to which pigments are then added. As a first coat under orange rust tones it works reliably.
The paint is water-thinnable and the manufacturer directs it into an airbrush. Watch the consistency according to how fine a transition you want; in general a dark, strong pigment covers quickly and one extra coat only floods the detail.
Shake and mix the bottle thoroughly before work. Dark shades have a dense pigment and unmixed paint sprays lighter at first than it should, which with a base coat can cause trouble.
Do not leave paint residues in the cup overnight. A strong dark pigment clings to the walls more than light tones and a dried film then clouds every later fill.
