Brush - DryBrush - Natural Small

Vallejo Brush — DryBrush — Natural, Small

This brush from manufacturer Vallejo is designed for a single specific job — the dry-brushing technique. It is fitted with natural fibers, which are flexible yet stiff enough to deposit only a minimal amount of paint on a model's surface. The Small size is the smallest in the range and targets details: rivets, panel edges, faces and gear on figures, small superstructures, and the edges of smaller parts. Dry-brushing is by nature an abrasive technique that quickly wears out an ordinary paintbrush — which is why a dedicated brush like this one is used.

Use

• Load only a very small amount of paint onto the brush — ideally thicker, slightly tacky paint.
• Wipe off almost all the paint onto a paper towel until the brush leaves almost no mark.
• Move the brush over the surface with light, quick strokes — the paint will catch only on edges and raised details, highlighting them.
• Build up in layers and add gradually rather than overdoing it the first time; dry-brushing is hard to undo.
• It is most often used with a lighter shade over a darker base (a highlighting effect, worn edges, metal scuffs).

Care of the brush

• Never let paint dry in the ferrule at the metal part — that is usually where a brush gives out.
• Wash the brush after use according to the paint type (rinse acrylic with water and soap right after use).
• After cleaning, reshape the bristles to a point and store the brush bristle-up, never resting on its tip.

Who it is for

For modelers and figure painters who work with edges and textures — figures, dioramas, plastic models of military vehicles, and terrain. The small size is suited to detail work and smaller scales.

The brush is a tool, not a chemical product — safety precautions follow the paint being used. Keep out of reach of children.
