EWC-08 Weathering Color Rust Orange (50 ml)

Rust Orange, the rusty tone from the Gunze weathering line

The eighth item of the eight-strong EWC line, which Gunze fills into 50 ml bottles. The liquid comes thinned and usable straight from the container. The binder is an oil one dissolved in a mild solvent, so it is thinned and wiped off exclusively with the thinner intended for this line. Neither water nor alcohol works with it. The shade stays workable for a long time, so you have time to decide how much of it you will leave on the model.

Where a rust orange layer helps

The tone aims at corrosion and at everything it leaves behind: streaks running down sheet metal from rivets and screws, the scorched surroundings of exhausts, worn track links, the rusted-through edges of drums or railings. Depending on the degree of thinning, one bottle turns either into a filter which gently shifts the tone of a whole surface, or into a thicker application which runs into engraved lines and corners, where it brings the shape out into the light. It also serves well on the wood, rubber and masonry of dioramas, because it can be spread out or lifted off again on the spot for as long as the solvent has not evaporated.

A proven procedure

• Apply only onto a fully cured surface, smooth and glossy if possible.
• Wipe the excess off with a cotton swab moistened with the thinner of the same line.
• Draw the strokes from top to bottom, as water would run down a real surface.
• Fix the finished effect with matte clear coat compatible with an oil layer.

The contents are flammable. Work with ventilation and with protection of the skin, do not leave cloths soaked in solvent lying about and store the closed bottle out of the reach of children and of sources of heat.
