Model Chisel - F1 - a Master Tools modeling chisel

Model Chisel - F1 is a hand cutting tool from the Master Tools tool range. The letter and the number in the designation distinguish the shape and the size of the blade within the range, so a modeler can put together a set to suit the work they do most often. It is neither a part for a model nor a consumable but a tool for years to come.

Use

• removing parting seams and burrs from injection-molded parts
• cleaning the remains of sprue gates in places nippers cannot reach
• picking excess plastic out of corners and recesses
• repairing and cleaning out engraved panel lines
• scraping away hardened glue or overflowing filler

How to work with it

Lead the chisel by pulling it toward you, not by pushing it away from your body. The tool then bites shallowly and does not skate across the surface. Take material off in thin layers and clear the shavings as you go, otherwise the edge clogs and starts to tear the material. On soft plastics very little pressure is enough; greater force leads to torn material and to a groove that then has to be filled. Keep the blade dry and clean and wipe it after work. The edge really is sharp, so do not leave the tool lying loose among the parts and keep your hand out of its path.

It will give most service to builders of vehicles and ships with large smooth surfaces, where a seam cannot be hidden. More experienced modelers buy several sizes and reach for them according to the width of the place they need to get into.
