The set holds a 3D-printed resin replica of the Soviet R-23T air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for the external stores. The print holds the thin surfaces of the fins and the clear cover of the infrared seeker, whose shape a casting usually simplifies.
The R-23T is the infrared-guided version of the Soviet medium-range R-23 air-to-air missile, the main armament of the MiG-23 fighter. The infrared seeker does not require the on-board radar to illuminate the target, so the pilot could break away after launch. The missiles were carried in a pair with the radar-guided R-23R version, one under each wing. The glazed nose is the unmistakable mark of the infrared seeker.
Wash the 3D-printed parts in warm soapy water first, to get rid of any print resin residue. Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as you can and sand the marks away with respiratory protection. Resin does not bond with polystyrene cement, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold well on the smooth print. Assemble and paint the armament separately and glue it to the pylon only once the varnish has dried, so that the fine surfaces do not get rubbed.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
