Styrene half-round profile 1.00 x 350 mm (5 pieces)

Five pieces of plastic profile with a semicircular section of 1.00 mm and a length of 350 mm. A half-round has one flat side and one rounded side, so it glues flat onto a surface while still reading as round piping, a strip or a beading. The number in the name is millimeters, it is not a scale.

What it is used for

• Runs of piping, hoses and cable looms lying against the skin.
• Beadings, edgings and decorative strips on car bodies and hulls.
• Grab handles, rests and guide rails, where only a flat surface shows under the part.
• Covering and softening an edge left by sanding or by plugging an unwanted hole.

Working with a thin profile

A one-millimeter profile is pliable enough to follow gentle curves by itself. Glue it down in short lengths at a time: put solvent cement on a piece of the run, press the profile down and hold it, and only then carry on. If you try to glue the whole length at once, the profile will lift on the curves. Always leave the ends a little long and trim them once dry, or the knife will tear the fresh joint. If you need a sharp finish, cut the profile at an angle and sand the edge away to nothing so that the transition to the surface does not show.
