R-40TD guided missile, 1:48 is a 3D-printed resin replica of the upgraded heat-seeking R-40TD missile in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds a 3D-printed resin replica of the heavy R-40TD air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for the external stores. The print keeps the sharp edges of the large control surfaces and the clear cover of the infrared seeker.
The R-40TD is the upgraded version of the heavy Soviet R-40 missile with infrared guidance. Unlike the radar version it does not need the aircraft to illuminate the target, so a pair with different guidance raised the chance of a hit. It was carried by late versions of the MiG-25 and by early MiG-31s on the wing pylons. You will recognize the infrared seeker by its glazed nose, which sets it apart from the radar version at first glance.
Wash the 3D-printed parts in warm soapy water first, to get rid of any print resin residue. Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as you can and sand the marks away with respiratory protection. Resin does not bond with polystyrene cement, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold well on the smooth print. Assemble and paint the armament separately and glue it to the pylon only once the varnish has dried, so that the fine surfaces do not get rubbed.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
