An oak grows slowly and lives for centuries. Its wood is among the hardest to be found in the temperate zone, and that is the reason villages met under an oak, why it marked the boundaries of plots and why it stayed standing even where the growth around it had long been felled. The silhouette is unmistakable: a short massive trunk, a widely spreading crown, dense foliage. Anyone building a landscape meant to look old and worked needs exactly this shape.
The package holds one finished tree 7.62 cm tall. The shaping of the crown and the coloring are done at the factory, so both painting and assembly are dispensed with.
An oak is not planted in groups. It comes off best as a specimen with free space left around it: in the middle of a pasture, at the edge of a yard, at the crossing of field tracks or above a low wall. Next to a building it in turn helps in judging its size, because a viewer's eye knows how tall a tree tends to be beside a house. Under the crown there is room for a bench, a wayside cross or a herd, that is elements which by themselves say something about how the land was worked.
The height given is physical; no scale is set by the manufacturer for this group of items. The model can therefore be used as a younger oak in a larger scale and as a mature specimen in a smaller one. Before planting it, it pays to stand it beside a figure or a vehicle and check that the proportion matches what the scene is meant to tell.
