An acrylic paint with a luminous effect from the Premium Color range by Vallejo. Shades of this kind are used where an element on a model is meant to look like a source of light or to catch the eye: on sci-fi and gaming models, on light and energy effects, on instruments and signal elements, on custom paintwork and on accessories displayed under colored lighting.
With luminous paints two properties are distinguished. A phosphorescent pigment is charged by light and then gives off a faint glow of its own in the dark, which gradually fades and has to be charged again. A fluorescent pigment does not glow in the dark; it shines only under ultraviolet light and looks unusually bright in daylight. Which of these effects the shade has is something to check against the manufacturer's information on the packaging, because how the model is displayed follows from it.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Luminous shades tend to have little covering power, so apply them over a white or light surface, otherwise the effect will be lost. Choose several thin coats; one heavy coat dries unevenly and pulls into patches. Check the thinning for spraying in the manufacturer's instructions. Expect a clear coat to damp the effect down as a rule, most of all a matte varnish, so try the varnish on a test piece first.
For modelers and painters who build sci-fi and gaming models or work on custom paintwork and want a luminous element on a model. The model, brushes and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
