About product

The real subject

The field poppy is a wild flower that holds on where the ground has been torn up: at the edges of fields, along paths, on embankments, on waste ground and on freshly turned soil. That is exactly why it suits scenes with military equipment and a landscape that someone has recently driven through or dug up. The plant grows to roughly half a meter, so in 1:72 scale it comes out as a small element about seven millimeters tall.

How to plant the poppy in a scene

Do not plant it in a row or evenly over the whole area. In reality it grows in irregular clumps, more densely at the edges and in places where the earth has moved, and elsewhere it is absent altogether. Leave open spaces between the tufts, therefore, and do not use the whole contents of the package on one area. The red color draws the eye, so it can even be used to steer the viewer's gaze around a diorama: a few tufts by the main scene do more than an unbroken red carpet, which flattens the scene.

Work tips

In this scale, work with tweezers, not with your fingers. The elements are fitted into finished terrain, when the scatter and the grass are in place and the colors have dried; in an unfinished scene they would only get dirty. For fixing them, a drop of glue applied with the tip of a toothpick works well, or setting them into terrain material that is still pliable, but the particular procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Set the plant in so that the stem comes out of the ground rather than the plant lying on the surface.

Terms of supply
