A title devoted to the Battle of Britain of 1940, that is to the fight of RAF Fighter Command against the Luftwaffe for air superiority over the islands.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Battle of Britain was the air campaign of the summer and autumn of 1940, in which the Luftwaffe tried to break the British fighter force and prepare the ground for a landing on the islands. The main weight of the fighting was carried on the British side by the Hawker Hurricane and the Supermarine Spitfire, and on the German side by the Messerschmitt Bf 109E, the heavy Bf 110 and the bombers Heinkel He 111, Dornier Do 17 and Junkers Ju 88.
What decided it was not only the equipment. The British had a coastal radar network and an elaborate system of ground control that could send fighters exactly where they were needed, instead of leaving them to patrol blind. When the German attacks shifted from the airfields to the cities, Fighter Command gained time to recover and the landing plan was put off.
The publication concentrates on this campaign, on the machines of both sides and on the course of the fighting over southern England and the English Channel.
The Battle of Britain is one of the most frequently built aviation subjects of all. A modeler will find support in it both for the markings of the machines and for the choice of a particular subject. It pays to watch the date: the shape of the national insignia, the shades of the under surfaces and the additional recognition stripes changed several times during 1940, so a scheme from the spring does not fit a machine from the autumn.
The title will appeal to those interested in the history of aviation in the Second World War and to modelers who build British or German machines of 1940 and are looking for support for the details.
Models, paints and decals are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
