A set of replacement wipers for the cockpit windshield in cast resin for the 1:48 plastic kit of the Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter from Zvezda. Quickboost is an accessory range from the Czech manufacturer Aires, aimed at the small parts that move a model up a class without a major intervention in the build. This is not a helicopter model — the kit is not included in the package.

Use

• Replaces the wipers from the original kit with thin, crisply cast resin parts
• Injection-molded plastic has to be thicker for the sake of the mold and of strength, so a plastic wiper looks coarse; resin holds the true slenderness of both the arm and the blade
• The effect is visible at once: the wipers sit right on the cockpit glazing, where the eye looks first
• Fitting: cut off the casting blocks, sand the mating surfaces, dry-fit, glue with cyanoacrylate glue

The real subject

The Ka-52 Alligator is a Russian two-seat attack helicopter derived from the single-seat Ka-50. Its hallmark is the coaxial rotor — two contra-rotating rotors one above the other, which do without a tail rotor. The arrangement gives the machine a higher rate of climb, good agility and less sensitivity to crosswind. The crew sit side by side, which is unusual for attack helicopters.

For modelers building the Ka-52 in 1:48 scale who want to rid the cockpit of oversized plastic details. The set is small and immediately visible — it belongs among the accessories with the best ratio of effort to result. Working with resin takes a little practice, but on a part this small even a careful beginner will manage it.

Wash the parts in warm soapy water before gluing (mold release agent residue prevents the paint from adhering). Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a scalpel, do not break them off. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection — the fine dust is harmful to health. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic does not work on resin. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package.
