The 1:35 Structure Upgrade PE Set for 48/50 ton SSys Flatcars is a photo-etched set that replaces the coarse plastic parts of the structure of German heavy flatcars.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set targets the thin-walled parts of the frame and the fittings of German SSys series flatcars for consignments weighing forty-eight to fifty tons. Photo-etch makes it possible to render the steps, brackets, grating and small platforms in a thickness that an injection mold will never reach. The difference is apparent mainly from the side, where the plastic equivalents look like beams.
Tracked equipment had a limited range on the road and broke up the roadway, so over longer distances it was carried by rail. The SSys series was built for fifty-ton consignments, and the version for forty-eight tons carries the SSkra Köln designation. Loading was done over an end or side ramp and the load was secured with chains, turnbuckles and wooden chocks; whole trains of such cars crossed half of Europe during the war.
Separate the sheet on a hard surface with a sharp knife or photo-etch scissors, never with nippers. Make the folds over the edge of a steel ruler or in a bending tool, so that they are sharp and at a right angle. Make the joints with super glue applied on the point of a pin. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and will flake off during handling.
