About product

Avro Anson C.19 (RAF) — 1:144, Valom

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British twin-engine multirole aircraft in the C.19 version from the Czech maker Valom. The scale is the small 1:144, so the finished model is compact and undemanding of space in a cabinet. The model is supplied as an unassembled and unpainted kit; the exact contents of the package and the number of marking options are given in the instructions enclosed with the particular kit.

The real subject

The Avro Anson is a British twin-engine aircraft that appeared as early as the mid-1930s and originally served for coastal reconnaissance and patrol. In the Second World War it became above all a multirole trainer and liaison machine, powered by a pair of Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah radial engines. The C.19 version is the postwar liaison and transport conversion with a more comfortable enclosed cabin, intended to carry passengers and for liaison duties with the Royal Air Force (RAF). That sets it apart from the training versions, which served to train crews.

Building and painting tips

In 1:144 scale the parts are fine, so reach for a thin cement for plastic that is applied in small amounts and does not run. Sand the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges before painting and spray the whole model with a primer, so that the following layers hold better. The canopy glazing is the most conspicuous detail in a small scale — set it in with a canopy cement that does not fog clear parts. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin layers; matte postwar camouflage and silver finishes come out well with gentle shading of the panels.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of British aircraft and the RAF in the small 1:144 scale
  • Modelers who build complete collections of twin-engine and liaison aircraft
  • Anyone interested in the output of the Czech maker Valom, who focuses on less usual types
  • More advanced builders who are comfortable working with small parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
