Silver

The color

A silver with a metallic look from the Premium Color range by Vallejo. It suits everywhere the surface should recall bare metal: on unpainted areas of the skin, on exhausts, on parts of the landing gear and on small fittings. The metallic look comes from the fine reflective particles in the paint, which settle parallel to the surface as it dries. That is exactly why a silver behaves differently from an ordinary opaque paint and calls for a slightly different approach.

The base decides

Metallic shades hide nothing; on the contrary, they bring out every scratch, every mark of abrasive paper and every trace of glue. So sand the area smooth first and lay down a smooth base; over a glossy dark base a silver looks richer and deeper, over a light one more like an aluminum spray. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, as the reflective particles will not settle on a greasy surface and the result will stay a dull gray.

How to apply the paint

• Stir the contents thoroughly before use, the metallic particles settle at the bottom.
• Apply in several thin coats, not in one heavy one.
• An airbrush gives a more even result than a brush, whose strokes leave visible marks in a metallic surface.
• Let the finished area cure properly, as a fresh metallic surface rubs off easily.
• Wait longer than with an ordinary paint before masking and pull the tape off slowly and at an angle.

Terms of supply

The package contains the paint. A thinner, an airbrush, brushes and other tools are not included, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room and store the container carefully closed and out of the reach of children.
