A fantasy figure from the AK Interactive brand. The 35 mm refers to the size of the figure, not to the scale of a model. The figure is supplied unpainted, so all of its character is yours to give it. On figures of this size it is layering that decides the result: the finished impression does not come from one well-chosen color but from how smoothly the individual tonal steps follow one another.
On a single colored area of a figure this size, three to five tonal steps will do: a base, one or two shadows and one or two highlights. The eye will not tell more steps apart on so small an area anyway, and the work only drags on. What matters is that every step is applied heavily thinned and in several passes, not in one thick coat. Thinned paint dissolves into the previous layer at the edge of the stroke by itself, and the transition appears without laborious blending. Leave the base tone on the largest continuous area, pull the shadows into the recesses and into the places where two parts meet, and run the highlights along the edges and the raised parts instead. Before you add the last, lightest step, leave the figure alone for a while and look at it at arm's length; from that distance you can tell whether the contrast is strong enough or has overshot.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
