A complete range of weathering pencils numbering 37 pieces. This is not a selection of a few shades, but the whole range together, so that you have both the basic earth and rust tones and shades for finer effects to hand. Anyone who weathers regularly will appreciate above all not having to order shades one at a time according to whatever they happen to be building.
A pencil gives you control over weathering that neither a brush nor an oil-based paint offers. You draw directly where an effect belongs: chips on edges, traces of rust under rivets, runs under drain holes, dirtied edges of hatches, worn spots on walkways. Bring the point to a thin wedge and run it along the edge of a part; the hardness of the lead lets you reach even very small places where a brush mark would spread.
They draw best on a matte surface, because a smooth gloss will not take the pigment. You can leave an applied mark crisp, or blend it, which turns a line into a soft transition. Work from the top down, so that the traces of running match the direction in which water runs down the real machine. Build the strength of an effect up gradually, in light layers; adding can be done at any time, taking away is harder. Check the procedure for blending and the recommended fixing of an effect in the manufacturer's directions, and try it out on an offcut or on a hidden area first.
The package contains the pencils. Paints, varnishes and brushes are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
