A set of eight acrylic shades of 17 ml each for British hardware and aircraft from 1939 to 1945: the khaki of ground vehicles, camouflage browns and bronze green.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British army went to France in 1939 with its hardware in a uniform dark khaki green. After the withdrawal from Dunkirk there was improvisation on the islands, two-color patterns were added to the single-color finishes, and the Royal Air Force meanwhile settled on a combination of dark green with earth brown on the upper surfaces. The eight shades in the package aim at precisely this stretch, from the first months of the war to the fighting on the European mainland.
The contents are Grey Blue, Camouflage Medium Brown, Hull Red, UK Light Mud, Num. 41 Dark Olive Drab, BS Dark Green, Khaki Green Num. 3 and UK Bronze Green. Side by side there are thus tones for vehicle hulls, for the airframe surfaces of aircraft and for the undersides of fuselages.
These are water-thinnable acrylics that will take an airbrush as well as a brush. The pigment settles to the bottom, so the bottle has to be shaken until the last of the sediment is gone. On extensive hulls the coverage holds best in two or three thin coats, which will not clog the engraving or the cast rivets.
Khaki Green Num. 3 was the basic finish of British vehicles and guns in the first years of the war, and UK Light Mud and Num. 41 Dark Olive Drab belong to the equipment deployed further south and east. Hull Red suits base areas and small details, Grey Blue the lower parts of aircraft. UK Bronze Green then carries over into postwar practice, so the set will serve outside the stated dates as well. The two brown tones can be mixed with each other to obtain intermediate positions for faded surfaces exposed to the sun.
