Photo-etched seat belts made of steel for a model of the F-14B fighter in 1:48. They replace the simplified belts from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Seat belts are among the details that catch the eye first in an open cockpit. The parts in a kit are usually suggested only as raised relief on the seat, so once painted they look flat. Photo-etched belts have a real thickness close to scale and can be bent the way cloth would fall over the edge of a seat.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing and a crew of two. The F-14B is a later version, differing from the original machine in its powerplant. The set relates to 1:48 scale.
According to the name the material is steel. It holds a bend better than softer metals but is harder to cut, so separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and do not tear them off. Make the bends over a sharp edge or in an etch bender and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue applied in drops from a pin. Whether the belts are printed in color or are painted on the model is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders who leave the cockpit open and want the seat to look occupied even without a figure. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and a calm hand; the reward is a detail that everyone sees on the finished model.
Photo-etched parts are supplied. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
