DSPIAE FB-25 - tungsten drill with a flat face, 2.5 mm

A precision DSPIAE drill in tungsten material with a flat face 2.5 mm in diameter. Unlike an ordinary twist drill it does not leave a cone at the bottom of a hole but a flat face. This larger diameter comes into its own at exhausts, barrel muzzles and headlights in larger scales, in making seats for magnets and connecting pins, and everywhere a circular hollow with an even bottom has to be recessed cleanly.

Use

• Punch the center first with a point; a larger flat face slides on a smooth surface even more readily than a small one.
• With larger diameters it pays to predrill with a thin twist drill and only to finish the hole with the flat face - the work is calmer and more precise.
• Drill square, without levering and without side pressure. A tungsten tool is hard but brittle.
• In a motor tool use low speed, so that the plastic does not heat up and smear along the edge.
• Clear the chips as you go, as a clogged hole leads to an inaccurate bottom.

Maintenance and storage

When the work is done, wipe the tool and store it apart from other tools, so that the face is not battered. A chipped edge will not make a flat bottom and will leave grooves in the hole. The tool lasts longest in soft plastic; resin and cured print wear it faster.
