DSPIAE FB-30 - tungsten drill with a flat face, 3.0 mm

A precision DSPIAE drill in tungsten material with a flat face, 3.0 mm in diameter. It is the largest of the sizes offered in this range and suits places where a wider circular recess with a flat bottom has to be created: seats for magnets and connecting pins on models that come apart, the muzzles of large exhausts and barrels in large scales, recessed holes for headlights, reflectors and instruments, or the clean removal of circular marks left by casting gates.

Use

• Punch the center of the hole and, at this diameter, rather predrill with a thinner twist drill - with the flat face you then only finish the hole.
• Drill slowly, square and without side pressure; a larger diameter means a larger bite, so the tool grabs and is pulled off more easily.
• In a motor tool run at low speed, as otherwise the plastic heats up and sticks to the edge.
• Keep checking the depth - on thin walls there is a risk of cutting right through.
• Clear the chips, so that the bottom stays flat and clean.

Maintenance and storage

Wipe the tool after work and store it so that the face does not knock against other tools. A battered edge will no longer create a flat bottom. The gentlest material for the tool is ordinary plastic, while harder materials of the resin type wear it noticeably faster.
