The color of a closed wood

Forest green lies between fresh spring green and the dark tone of coniferous shade. It is the color of grown deciduous growth in full summer and at the same time the most universal shade of the whole group: most of a scene can be covered with it without the result looking conspicuous, and the other tones are put into it as accents. Anyone building a landscape of the temperate zone usually starts right here.

What the growth is made of

The content of the bag is small clumps of light foam colored through the material. It is not shaped with a knife but by tearing, so every piece has an irregular edge and no two lumps arise the same. This line offers a finer texture, so it suits undergrowth over an area, overgrown field boundaries and filling the space between trunks. According to the manufacturer the package will cover 353 cm².

From bare terrain to a finished area

First it is good to undercoat the terrain dark brown or olive, so that the base showing through does not spoil the impression. A thin layer of glue follows and the foliage is laid onto it, ideally in smaller handfuls and with gaps that are filled only in the next round. Building it up gradually gives the growth an uneven height, exactly as it looks in a real wood. Once dry the area is gone over lightly with the fingers and whatever does not hold falls off. Anyone who wants to go further adds single taller clumps and fallen leaves, which moves a scene on from a colored area to a landscape. The material is tied neither to a scale nor to a particular type of scenery and will serve just as well by a military display scene as on a model railroad.
