A plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Bandai. The name brings together two things that belong with each other: the carrier machine G Fighter and the mobile suit RX-78-2 Gundam, which together form the combination known as G-Armor. The kit is snap-fit: the plastic is already colored right through and the parts fit together with a click, so you need neither glue nor paints for the build. The range grade, which determines how complex the build is, is stated on the box.

The real subject

The RX-78-2 Gundam is the very first and best known mobile suit of the whole series, the hallmark of the entire genre. The G Fighter is a carrier and support machine that works with it in the story, transporting it and widening the range of situations it can be used in. Joining the two together is a classic combination from the first series, so it is a subject that will be appreciated above all by those who like the original form of the Gundam rather than later reworkings.

Building and painting

Separate the parts with sprue cutters away from the edge and only then trim the rest of the gate with a knife and sand it with fine abrasive paper. On the larger flat parts of the carrier machine it pays to sand in several stages and check the surface against the light. Anyone who wants to can still paint the model: the pre-coloring is no obstacle. Degrease the surface, spray it with a primer and paint with an airbrush or a brush. The classic trio of white, blue and red on the RX-78-2 looks best with slightly muted shades and panel lines wiped in. A final varnish will unify the surface: matte for a realistic look, gloss as a base for decals.
