The Holstein Cows set belongs to the line of scenic accessories of the American brand Woodland Scenics for HO scale (1:87). It holds figures of Holstein dairy cattle with their characteristic black-and-white patched coloring, in various stances. The animals are modeled in detail and hand-painted; they are supplied finished and are only set in place.
Holstein cattle are the most widespread dairy breed and their pronounced pattern can be told even from several tens of centimeters away, so on a layout they work as a reliable sign of agricultural landscape. The set belongs on a pasture along the track, in the paddock by a dairy barn, at a feed rack or in a farmyard. It combines well with figures of farmers and with further rural accessories of the same line.
Set the herd out irregularly, with a little group at the water trough and individual head farther off at grass; turn some of the animals head down. They are glued with a spot drop of cyanoacrylate glue, and on a grassy surface PVA glue holds as well. A fine spray of matte varnish evens out the gloss of the paints and a pinch of pigment on the lower parts of the legs links the animals to the terrain. Go carefully with weathering on the white areas, because they are easily overpainted. Shades may differ slightly between production runs.
The figures are supplied finished and hand-painted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
