Practical advice

Before you start work on a finished part, make a test on a piece of waste plastic. You will see how dense the texture comes out and how it shows once painted, which cannot be judged from a photograph. Degrease the surface beforehand and get the dust off it. Mark off the boundaries of the areas that are to stay smooth with masking tape; a sharp transition looks more convincing than a blurred edge. The texture should be on the fine side for the scale. Clean the tools right after work, as dried residue is hard to remove.
