About product

The color

This is a modeling paint in a gray-blue shade that the manufacturer carries under the Japanese name Hai Ran Shoku and the sequence number 3 in its range of shades for Imperial Japanese Army Air Force aircraft. The shade is meant for the cockpit interior, that is for surfaces that are seen only through the glazing once the canopy is closed. Which particular aircraft and production series the shade belongs to is worth checking in the sources for the subject you are building; interior shades on Japanese aircraft differed by manufacturer and by period.

Thinning and application

Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range. Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before work so that the pigment settled at the bottom is spread through the whole volume. Lay the paint down in thin coats and let the surface dry in between. A heavy coat floods the fine relief of the instrument panel and the side consoles, on which everything in a cockpit depends.

Building and painting tips

Paint the interior parts before you glue the fuselage together, as you will not reach them later. Wash and degrease the model before painting, or the paint will blotch on greasy spots. A painted interior takes a dark wash run into the recesses and a dry brush along the edges well, so that the cockpit does not look flat. After work, wipe the rim of the bottle and close it carefully, or the lid will dry shut in time.

The thinner intended for this range. The thinning ratio and the recommended procedure are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Before you glue the fuselage together. Once it is closed you can no longer reach the cockpit parts and painting the canopy gets complicated.

No. The shade is the same whatever the scale; you will use the same bottle on a model in 1:72 and in 1:32.
