A mains adapter that serves to power lighting in models and dioramas. It converts mains voltage to twelve volts DC, which is the value at which ready-made modeling LEDs shine at full brightness. The output ends in a connector, so a splitter can be attached to it and even a more complex distribution of lights built, without having to solder anything into the mains.
Ready-made modeling LEDs are commonly supplied with a resistor already fitted, so they can be connected to twelve volts directly. Never connect an LED without a resistor, as it will be destroyed at once. Watch the polarity: an LED passes current in one direction only and will not light when connected the wrong way round. The supply also has its own current limit, so when building more extensive lighting reckon with how many LEDs you hang on it. Do not use a damaged cable and do not cover the supply, as it needs to dissipate heat.
For builders of lit dioramas and display cases and for modelers who want their lights powered permanently from the mains instead of from a battery.
This is an electrical device connected to the mains. Keep it out of the reach of children, do not dismantle it and do not use it in damp conditions.
