A scenic material in the form of long fibers in a brown shade. The figure of 100 mm in the name refers to the length of the fiber; compared with ordinary static grass, where the fibers are a few millimeters long, this is a markedly longer material from which tall grass, reeds, cereals and the overgrown edges of paths are made. The fibers are cut to the length needed, so from one package you can make a clump a few millimeters high or growth corresponding to a meter-high band of grass.
The proven method is in bundles: line a strand of fibers up, dip the lower end into PVA glue (white glue) and set it into a hole prepared in advance or straight into glue on the base. Once the glue has begun to set, trim the excess length with scissors; the cut is always made at the top, because an uneven upper edge looks natural, whereas a trimmed flat plane gives the artificial origin away. Do not place the clumps evenly; nature makes them cluster at obstacles, along fences, at the foot of walls and in ditches. The brown shade stands for dry or overwintered grass, so it mixes superbly with green shades in a proportion where the brown forms the shadow and the lower layer of growth. The shade can be tuned with a light spray of thinned paint from above, so that the tips stay lighter than the roots.
The fibers are light and scatter easily, so work out of any draft and pour the material out in small amounts into a dish. Return the rest to a closed container, so that it does not take up dust and damp. It is a good idea to fix the finished growth at the end with matte varnish applied from a distance, otherwise the fibers come loose during handling.
