Master Medium is a water-thinnable product meant to be mixed into acrylic paint before the brush ever touches the model. It does not color anything by itself. According to the manufacturer it raises the transparency of the coat, stretches a given quantity of paint into a greater volume, strengthens the cohesion of the dried film, improves the leveling of the paint and gives the layer flexibility and adhesion.
When a covering acrylic is thinned with water alone, the binder disappears along with the pigment. The coat then gathers into blotches, rubs off under the edge of a fingernail once dry and holds poorly on bare plastic. Mixing in the medium puts that ratio right: the pigment is thinned while enough binder remains. That is exactly why modelers reach for it when making glazes, soft transitions on the faces of figures, smoke shadows behind exhausts or when gradually toning large fuselage surfaces where every blotch would show.
The manufacturer lists the product as suitable for both techniques, so it can be brought into sprayed filters and translucent veils just as well as into hand work. The flexibility of the dried layer will be appreciated above all by modelers who paint materials that work a little under stress: rubber tracks, soft vinyl or very thin plastic sections, where a hard film cracks.
It is supplied in a single bottle holding 60 ml. It can be mixed in any ratio according to how strong a glaze you need, and the difference shows with the very first stroke on a test piece of plastic.
