The roller impresses the irregular stone paving that covers historic streets and courtyards into soft modeling compound. The Mega designation means a larger format than the basic range, so one pass covers a longer stretch of roadway. The roller is a lasting tool — the finished surface comes only from the modeling compound, which you obtain separately.

From the impression to a finished roadway

• Roll the compound out over the whole length of the planned stretch; a join in the middle of a roadway shows more than one by a wall.
• Treat both the roller and the surface with release agent and impress it in one unbroken pass.
• While the compound is still soft, bow the surface into a slight cross fall toward the edge — a flat roadway looks artificial.
• Press out the worn ruts where vehicles pass and sink or remove a few of the stones.
• Once it has cured, add the curbs and the transition to the sidewalk, and only then apply a base coat.

Weathering and traces of traffic

Cobblestones live from the depth of their joints. Let a dark wash run between the stones and lighten the high points with drybrushing; tone individual stones toward both warmer and cooler shades. Add mud and dust effects into the ruts and by the curbs, and between the stones at the edge of the road you can work in small plants. Apply a wet sheen only in the hollows, never over the whole area.
