GLADIUS BRONZE is a bronze shade from the metallic line of Green Stuff World. The difference from an opaque paint is visible right at the first application: an opaque shade stays on the surface as an even area, whereas a metallic paint reflects light once dry and acts like metal. That is exactly why a finished area cannot be judged reliably while damp or under a single source of light.

The surface underneath and the way of applying

Reflective particles need a flat and uniform surface. On a smooth area they give a continuous metallic sheen, on a grainy or broken-up surface the reflection refracts and the bronze looks more matte and more tarnished. A dark surface deepens the shadows and accentuates the contrast of the relief, a light surface brightens the shade. The filler sinks to the bottom of the bottle, so stir the contents repeatedly before work and between the individual coats. Two thin coats give a more uniform sheen than one heavy one.

Use and a different approach to a wash

• A bronze suits fittings, weapons, decorative elements, statues and accessories of figures.
• Apply it only at the end of painting; a metallic area is harder to spray over and to mask.
• On a matte paint a wash catches in the microtexture of the surface and stays in the recesses; a metallic coat is smoother, so a wash runs off it and dries into irregular blotches.
• Do the weathering in a targeted way, therefore, into the engraved lines and the shadows, and take the excess off immediately.
• A wash over the whole extent of the bronze reduces its gloss; count on that as an intention, not as an accident.
