Micro Leaves - Dark Violet Mix

Fine scenic foliage from Green Stuff World in a dark violet finish. The word mix in the name means a combination, not a single repeated shape. The foliage is used where vegetation is to be seen from close up: on branches, on climbers, in cracks in masonry and as litter on the ground.

Where it belongs in the planting

Dark violet behaves differently from the light shades. It does not read as a flower or as a spring leaf but as deep shadow and exotic or foreign greenery. So it is used rather sparingly and deliberately: under a crown, into shaded corners, along the edges of the planting and anywhere a scene should lose some of its optimism. In a fantasy diorama it works as the whole vegetation of a swamp or a dark forest; in a realistic scene it works instead as an addition that gives the greenery depth.

How it is layered

• The terrain and the planting have to be finished before you reach for the foliage.
• Apply the fixative binder thinly only where the foliage belongs, and then add the foliage.
• A dark shade needs contrast, otherwise it merges with the ground, so put it on the lighter places.
• Combine it with warmer tones of foliage; dark violet on its own looks unnatural.
• Scatter a little foliage onto the ground too; litter under the planting ties the scene together.
