This is the subject group for ground combat vehicles – tracked and wheeled machines, armoured carriers and self-propelled artillery. Compared with aircraft, armour spends its time somewhere else entirely: road wheels, return rollers and above all the tracks are the laborious part of any box, and they come before the interesting work rather than after it.
The payback comes at the finish. Dust, mud and traces of use suit armour, they are genuinely enjoyable to apply, and they cover small imperfections that would be glaring on a gloss car. How the tracks are supplied, as a flexible band, as link-and-length runs or as individual links, says more about an afternoon at the bench than the box size does. The full span of ground machines, with replacement tracks alongside, is in military vehicle kits, and the scale where interiors and engine bays are built out in full is 1:35 military vehicles.
