The U-STAR bench tool for folding photo-etched parts in the smaller size holds a thin metal part while it is folded, so that the edge comes out sharp and exactly on the scored line.
Responsibility details are not available.
Photo-etched parts are thin metal sheets that get folded into shape during a build. Folding them between the fingers means a bowed edge and a fold some way off the scored line; on small parts there is also the risk of the material cracking at the fold. A bench tool clamps the part along the whole length of the future edge, and the fold is then sharp, straight and accurate.
What the tool solves
Set the part so that the fold line is flush with the edge of the tool, clamp it firmly and bend the material slowly, in one movement. Metal does not take repeated folding back and forth, so try the procedure first on the waste part of a photo-etched fret rather than straight on the part from the kit. Degrease the part before folding; paint and glue then hold on it. The figure 7x8.5 cm in the name tells this version apart from the larger variant in the same range; what exactly it refers to is given on the box.
The box gives the material of the tool, the number of jaws and the size of the working area.
