A file is the tool for taking off material finely when building a model. With it you level mating surfaces so that the parts fit without a gap, take down surplus material and the marks left by manufacture, and fine-tune the shape of a part where abrasive paper is too soft. Against sandpaper, a file keeps a flat plane, so it does not round off an edge that is meant to stay sharp.
The set holds ten files. Choose the profile according to the spot you are working on: a flat one suits flat surfaces and edges, a round or half-round one goes into holes and curves, and a three-square one into inside corners. The smaller profiles come into their own where a larger tool cannot reach.
Work with a stroke in one direction and with light pressure; force will not speed the work up, it will only clog the teeth. Hold the part so that a thin wall does not flex. A file is not for cutting material apart; use a saw or a knife for that. After filing, dust the surface off and degrease it before painting, otherwise dust will stay in the fine grooves and the finish will later lift off it.
The set of tools is supplied on its own. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
