An air force over the Aegean

The Hellenic Air Force flies over the sea and its finishes show it. The package covers three different approaches to camouflage: the newer gray scheme called Ghost, the older Aegean Blue pattern with a blue upper part and metallic-looking undersides, and finally the uniform gray coat of today's transport machines.

How the shades divide up

• FS35237, FS36251 and FS36307 make up the gray Ghost scheme itself on the F-16C and F-16D of blocks 30, 50, 52 and 52M, on the F-4E, the F-5A and F-5B and on the pair of Mirage F1CG machines.
• FS36320 Dark Ghost Grey covers the radome.
• An aluminum color and FS35164 Intermediate Blue go with the Aegean Blue pattern of the 1980s and 1990s.
• FS36375 Light Ghost Grey is the closest match to the shade Celomer 1625, that is to the base finish of the Greek Mirage 2000s.
• FS36280 Cloud Grey has been worn since 2010 by the Lockheed C-130H Hercules and Alenia C-27J Spartan transports.

It is worth mentioning that the aluminum shade of the Aegean Blue pattern was not used on the HU-16B amphibians, so for those a modeler will reach for a different combination.

A note on the chemistry

Chemically these are lacquers, so work with the thinner intended for them and with decent ventilation. The metallic-looking aluminum shade is sensitive to masking tape, so apply it last, or protect it with a clear coat once it is dry.
