Eight tones that the postwar British camouflage schemes are made up of. From the blue-gray coats of the Tornados and Hawks through the pair of greens for helicopters and Harriers to the uniform gray finish that the fifth-generation machines wear today.

The Royal Air Force went through three waves of repainting from the eighties onward and this set of eight shades captures them together. The green and brown patterns gave way to gray ones, during the nineties those were lightened further, and in the end they were replaced by the uniform finish of modern jets.
The lightest, BS Light Aircraft Grey (BS381C:627), belonged to the undersides of the Tornado F3 until the middle of the first decade of this century and in combination with two further grays was also carried by the Phantom FGR.2 in the air superiority version. The shade BS381C:626, known as Camouflage or Barley Grey, covered the undersides of the Hawks and Buccaneers in the nineties, the upper surfaces of the Tornado F3, and is at the same time the overall color of British Typhoons. It is complemented by BS Medium Sea Grey (BS381C:637), which appeared on the spines of the Hawks, in the final scheme of the Buccaneer and later overall on the Tornado GR4.
The pair of green tones aims at a different group of machines. BS NATO IRR Green (BS381C:285) and BS Lichen Green to the standard BS4800 covered the Puma helicopters and in the years 1987 to 1995 also the upper and lower surfaces of the Harrier GR5, GR7 and the training versions. The gray line is closed by BS Dark Camouflage Grey (BS381C:629) and BS Dark Sea Grey (BS381C:638), divided between the undersides and the spines of the Jaguars, Harriers and the Tornado GR1 and GR4. The eighth tone, Have Glass Grey (FS36170), is the overall color of the F-35 aircraft including the British machines of the B version.
The three gray tones are alike at first sight, so it pays to spray a test swatch on a scrap of plastic and label it before the model itself comes up.
