A finished handmade model tree from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a kit and not a loose scenery material — the tree is complete and ready to be planted into a diorama, a layout or a display case. The height runs roughly between 180 and 220 mm and the version is defined by the tall bare trunk with a high-set crown. It differs from the summer version in the color of the crown: the needles are in a golden-yellow to ocher autumn shade. Every piece is made by hand, so small differences in the shape of the crown are natural.
The larch is the only common deciduous conifer of Central European forests. In autumn its needles turn a rich gold and then fall, so the tree spends the winter bare. It is precisely this golden color that makes the larch an unmissable element of mountain and foothill stands in autumn, where it stands out from the evergreen spruces. The trunk is straight, and in a closed forest the tree breaks off its lower branches, hence the typical long clean trunk.
An autumn larch is a very strong element in terms of color — use it rather sparingly in a scene and let it stand out against the darker green of coniferous surroundings. Sink the trunk into the terrain and hide the foot with turf and leaf scatter. On the ground under the crown it is worth scattering a little golden and brown fine scatter as fallen needles, ideally not continuously and denser on the windward side. Keep the season of the scene consistent: an autumn tree in bright green summer growth is distracting.
