A set of Lifecolor paints derived from the olive finish of American army equipment. It serves for working with contrast and for subduing uniform areas.

A uniform area of olive finish looks flatter on a model than on the real subject. The reduced dimensions suppress the play of light and the effect of distance, and the machine then comes across as a piece of single-colored mass. This Lifecolor set therefore offers shades derived from the basic olive color of American army equipment: some lifted toward light and contrast, others subdued and grayed down.
Olive Drab was for long years the basic color of United States Army vehicles. It was not one single exact tone: the shade differed according to the batch of paint, according to the manufacturer and according to how long a machine had been in service. Sun and rain bleached it toward gray-green, while dust and grease pulled it toward brown. That is exactly why an olive finish pays to be built up on a model from several close tones rather than from one.
First cover the model with the basic shade. Then lift the horizontal surfaces, the tops of shapes and the areas around edges where light would fall with a lighter tone, and conversely sink the lower parts, the corners and the areas under superstructures with a subdued tone. Spray thinly and from a greater distance, so that the transitions stay soft. Feel free to overdo the differences at first; a final veil of the basic shade will pull them together and all that remains of them is an impression of depth.
For modelers who build American military equipment and want to get beyond a single-colored spray job. The model, glue and thinner are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
