Unmown meadow early summer — scenery growth for a diorama

Unmown meadow early summer is finished grassy growth from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a kit and not a model of a vehicle, but a scenery material with which you create an area of mature, as yet unmown grass on a base board. The stems stand and have an uneven height, so the result does not read as an artificial carpet but as a real meadow before the first cut.

What period the meadow represents

The coloring matches the start of summer: a rich, still fresh green predominates, complemented by lighter stems and the first flower heads coming up. At this stage the vegetation is lush and dense, but as yet without summer drying. The growth therefore suits scenes set roughly in June — meadows and field margins before the hay harvest, grassy areas around farms and village buildings, the edges of country tracks or overgrown land in a rear area.

Placing it in the scene

First paint the substrate an earth or dark green tone, so that the gaps between the clumps are not conspicuous. The growth is glued on with PVA glue or with thinly spread modeling glue, and small offcuts will take cyanoacrylate as well. Do not tear the edges to a straight line — a thinned-out irregular fringe works into its surroundings more naturally. Fill the transitions to a track, a ford or a structure with a fine scatter, turfs or low bushes. If you need to shift the shade, overspray only very lightly and check it on an offcut first.
