Flat lead wires 0.3 x 1 mm

This is a material for building your own details, not a finished accessory or a kit. The package contains a soft lead strip of rectangular cross section, 0.3 x 1 mm. A flat cross section opens up possibilities that round wire does not: the strip can be wrapped around a pipe as a hose clamp, laid down as flat bar, bent into a bracket or used as the strap of a satchel or the belt of a figure.

Why a flat lead strip

Lead is soft and hardly springs at all, so once bent the strip stays exactly where you put it. Unlike paper or foil it can be shaped into three-dimensional curves and will hold them, which is crucial on freely hanging straps and belts. The material cuts with scissors or a scalpel, it presses to the shape of a surface easily with a finger, and the surface holds primer and paint well. In 1:35 scale the 0.3 x 1 mm cross section corresponds roughly to a narrower band or a thicker hose clamp.

Use

• Cut the length you need with scissors or a scalpel
• Press the strip onto the part and shape it there, so that it follows its form
• Glue it with cyanoacrylate glue applied in drops, and with epoxy on large surfaces
• Degrease the surface and apply a primer before painting
• Add the buckles and clasps from a photo-etched part or from fine wire

Safety and storage

Lead is a toxic metal. Wash your hands after working, do not put the material in your mouth, do not sand it dry and keep it out of the reach of children. Store the strip straightened. Neither the length of the strip nor the number of pieces in the package is stated here.
